Girl’s Cricket

Girl’s Cricket at W&S

Our two ECB programmes for kids, All Stars for those aged 5 to 12, and Dynamos 8-12, are mixed programmes. So see the Junior Section page for more information, or the buttons below if your child is within that age bracket.

However, from the age of 8 girls can either choose to play Dynamos or junior cricket with the boys, or move across to the girls only Warborough Warriors. Or do both! Its up to the individual.

See below to find out more about girls-only cricket opportunities here at W&SCC through our Warriors teams.

Warriors (8yrs+)

Girls cricket in oxfordshire

Warborough Warriors is the brilliant, dedicated girls and women’s section at W&SCC.

Girls join from age 8 / Yr 3 often following on or in parallel with their last year of Dynamos cricket. We have age groups up to U15s with older girls progressing to the Women’s team.

We run fun, dynamic sessions led by ECB qualified coaches and pitched according to development needs of the players. Emphasis on having fun, making friends and advancing cricket skills.

The Warriors are closely integrated with the rest of the Junior structure at the club. Girls are highly encouraged to also join mixed age-groups for training and matches.

Multiple Warriors also play junior age-group cricket for Oxfordshire.

When, Where, Joining

girls cricket near oxford

Tuesday night is girls training night on Warborough Green from 17:30-19:00.

Matches vary per age group from Sunday morning festivals to mid-week evening leagues. There are also programmes of indoor training during the winter. As well as joining the Warriors girls are automatically also part of their respective mixed age groups in the wider Junior structure. This provides double the training and match opportunities for girls - helping to address the gender ball sport experience imbalance that is already present in girls as young as 8.

Single junior membership is £55 / season with discounts for siblings.

Meet the Head Coach

The Warriors have a fantastic team of female and male coaches led by Head Coach, Adam Wood. Coaches are qualified to ECB Level 1 or 2 and all DBS checked.

Adam has been coaching junior cricket at W&S since 2010 when his first son came to the club. He and another son came through the club junior ranks and now play senior cricket. In 2022 his daughter graduated from All Stars and needed somewhere for her and friends to go - so in partnership with Jo, Tom and Claire the Warriors came into being.

Adam also coaches in the Oxfordshire Pathway.

Safeguarding and Coaching

In order to provide and run the ECB programmes detailed above to our thriving junior section, we must be fully affiliated to the OCB as a club and provide qualified and DBS cleared volunteer coaches as well as safeguarding officers.

Details of our coaches can be found on each section page, and our safeguarding officers are listed on our Info and Contact Page.

We’d love to hear from you if you’d like to try coaching.
