Senior XI

The Senior Side

Our ‘First XI’ is made up of cricketers of all abilities, who love the game. We have players who have played minor county level all the way through to players new to the game. Our ethos is to enjoy the day, make it an occasion, and to make sure everyone in the side sees some action, while actively encouraging our older junior players (15+) into the team throughout the season.

Our season runs from late April to late September each year.

We are NOT a league side. We play friendly declaration games on a Sunday against well known and established touring and nomadic sides. We try to win, and we are serious about our cricket, but won’t lose any sleep if we lose.

Who do we Play?

Many of our fixtures are now 20 years old or more. We tend to host touring or nomadic sides, all of whom love coming to The Green for a day each summer.

We welcome teams from Kensington, Richmond, Dorset, various Home Counties and even Australia during an Ashes summer. Teams such as The Authors, Rhode’s Scholars and United Oxford Hospitals are examples of profession based and student teams who visit us each year.

All our opposition are retained on the basis of playing the game well and in the right spirit.

What do we Play?

We play friendly declaration cricket. Normally starting early afternoon, with 20 overs from 6pm. We nearly always play at home on a Sunday. Our fixtures start in late April and continue without break each Sunday until mid September. We intersperse these regular Sunday games with a number of friendly midweek 20/20 matches, and have a number of all day games too on a Sunday (lunch included). In 2025 we plan to introduce a cricket fun day for the family.

Our teas on a Sunday are legendary, taken between innings under the famous old oak tree next to the pavilion, then drinks after the game at the pub.

Nets & Coaching

We offer free use of our open air nets to members and prospective players, with a ‘hosted’ net session on Thursday nights in April and beyond. We have three voluntary senior coaches who in turn run the hosted nets, who can help you develop your game at all levels. We have a good bowling machine and also take fielding sessions on The Green when dry.

Our more enthusiastic junior players are also invited to join us in the nets, with the intent of introducing them to the senior side when ready. The nets are also available to book individually at any time for our members.

Joining and Costs

The seniors tend to start at our outdoor nets in late March, weather depending. Any new player is encouraged to come down one evening to get an idea of the standard and to meet your new friends. A commitment to membership is not required instantly, we like for you to experience a game or two first. If a selection needs to be made, members get first dibs.

Senior Memberships are £100 a year,

Occasional Memberships £30 (Up to 4 games) and Consession Memberships £50.

Match fees include teas, £12.50 and £6.25 cons, per game.
